Frequently asked questions

The personal allowance for the 2026/27 tax year is £17,000. This is the amount of income you can earn before you start paying income tax. If your total income exceeds £100,000, the allowance is reduced by £1 for every £2 above that threshold.

For the 2026/27 tax year, Isle of Man income tax is charged at 10% on the first £6,500 of taxable income above the personal allowance (so £17,000 to £23,500), and 21% on everything above £23,500.

If your annual self-employment profits are above £9,152, you'll pay Class 2 National Insurance at a flat rate of £6.75 per week (£351 a year). It's usually paid by monthly direct debit.

The Isle of Man tax year runs from 6 April to 5 April the following year. For example, the 2026/27 tax year runs from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027.

You must register for VAT on the Isle of Man if your taxable turnover is above £90,000 in a 12-month period. You may register voluntarily below this threshold.
